The Blog of Dog… (and I’m not bagging it!)

IMG_1706

Is it just me or does anyone else find it ironic that we bag our dog poop these days in little plastic bags that won’t decompose, mind you, because we don’t want to offend anyone with our dog’s shit. Are there landfills somewhere loaded up with little bags of dog shit being preserved for all eternity in little plastic bags?

It just struck me as very funny, in a strange kind of way, when I was out on the forest trail for my morning run. I passed a little black bag of shit that someone left on the side of the trail near a bush presumably to pick up at a later time.  When? Did they forget? Are they trying to hide it”,I wondered?  Here I am on this beautiful dirt and red rock forest trail leaping over various piles of mealy coyote dung, hay infused horse mounds and bunny nuggets all the while passing folks holding little plastic bags in order to pick up their dog’s shit!

Doesn’t this mirror us as human beings though?  Here we are so afraid that we might leave our shit out where somebody might see or smell it and like the “Emperor Who Had No Clothes”, scream and point, “He’s full of shit“!  You know what happens when we try to hide our shit inside?  Somebody is sure to call us on our shit or accuse us of being a Bullshitter or worse yet, tell others that we are full of shit!  Any yet, it’s true in a way.

Maybe if we let our dogs’ shit out in the wild like the rest of the animals and nature surely intended, we could help rid the earth of yet more plastic bags.  Maybe if we brought our own shit up to be seen, instead of wrapping it up and storing it inside of ourselves, it might just decompose naturally in the light of Awareness. So, let’s start a movement to free our landfills of plastic dog shit bags and free our animals to take a dump with pride, with dignity and without us running behind them like merry maids to scoop and bag it.  Encourage your pup to move his tail over to the side of the trail. After all, that’s just good manners.  You and me?  Let’s just kick out own shit to the curb and let it die a natural death.  Both we and the planet will be a whole lot healthy for it!
