Spring Cleaning - PRODUCT GUIDE
There’s something about Spring that welcomes new beginnings, fresh starts and a sudden urge to clean our homes. I recently asked for recommendations on your favorite cleaning supplies, tools, and tips! Y’all came through and I’ve compiled a comprehensive list of the best tools & tricks to get you through your spring cleaning. This list is based on your recommendations in addition to some of my personal favorites. Enjoy!
-
SOURCES- A few of my go to places for storage (e.g. bins, boxes, canisters, etc.) are Amazon, IKEA, Target, & The Container Store
(TIP: To save a few $$, consider using cardboard boxes, crates, or shoe boxes for hidden storage. This will meet the need, but also allow you to allocate more toward your decorative storage.)
CLEANING CADDY- I LOVE this caddy from the Grove Collaborative. They are perfect for storing in bathrooms, kitchens, and laundry rooms for easy accessibility to supplies.
LABEL MAKER- It will change your life
-
NORWEX MICROFIBER CLOTH- Great for dust but also for multi-purpose use
OXO GOOD GRIPS MICROFIBER HAND DUSTER - Great for hard to reach spaces (there’s an extendable version as well!)
SETSAIL BLIND DUSTER- great for blinds, shutters, grates, etc.
-
SEVENTH GENERATION DISINFECTING WIPES- These wipes are great for doorknobs, handles & hardware
-
DYSON CYCLONE V10 ANIMAL+ STICK VACUUM- Cordless Vacuums FOREVER! This is by far the most impactful cleaning tool that I have. It’s great for kid’s crumbs, sweeping the stairs, and quick jobs where you don’t want the hassle of a cord.
I have an older Dyson model than the one I’ve linked, and it works great! If the price tag has you second-guessing, one recommendation would be to look for an older model or a refurbished/factory-reconditioned model. We bought ours on Woot for a fraction of the price! If you aren’t interested in that waiting game, just know that it is a quality investment and will truly minimize your cleaning time. There are several brands that carry cordless models at a lower price point as well (e.g. Shark, Hoover, etc.)
BLACK & DECKER DUST BUSTER- Great for storing near a bathroom or laundry room for quickly picking up hair or lint
-
VINEGAR + WATER SOLUTION- A vinegar solution is easy, inexpensive, and has endless uses. Follow this link for some great tips on where you can use diluted vinegar in the kitchen! (TIP: Consider adding numerous drips of your favorite essential oil to your vinegar solution for a more pleasant fragrance)
GROVE CO. MULTIPURPOSE CLEANER CONCENTRATE- I JUST started using this product and I am thrilled! It cleans thoroughly and smells amazing.
MR. CLEAN ANTIBACTERIAL MULTIPURPOSE CLEANER- I love a citrus smell, especially in the kitchen, and Mr. Clean does not mess around. I dilute it with water and a little of this solution goes a long way.
METHOD ALL-PURPOSE CLEANER- If you’re looking for a great off-the-shelf product, this is it! It is plant-based, smells great (variety of scents), and effectively cleans on a multitude of surfaces
DAWN DISH SOAP- I live by Dawn. I use it for cleaning my quartz countertops, pulling stains from my toddler’s clothes, and of course for soaking/scrubbing dishes.
-
MR. CLEAN MAGIC ERASER + DRY, WHITE CLOTH- This product truly is magic! I use the sponge to wipe off dirt/scuffs directly from my walls and follow it up by wiping with a dry, white cloth. I also love using it for trimwork, tubs/showers, and sinks.
TIP: If your walls are requiring paint touch ups, consider keeping a small jar of your paint nearby for easy touch ups, rather than having to get out the entire gallon.
-
NORWEX WINDOW CLOTH- People love their Norwex! And with good reason. The beauty of this product is that it’s chemical-free and only needs to be mixed with water to achieve an effective clean.
GROVE CO. GLASS CLEANER CONCENTRATE- Streak-free & smells like heaven. Is there a better combination?
SPRAYWAY GLASS CLEANER- A longtime consumer favorite. Ammonia-free and great on all glass surfaces!
-
RECOMMENDED SPRAY MOP: O-Cedar ProMist Max Microfiber Spray Mop
RECOMMENDED SPIN MOP: O-Cedar EasyWring Spin Mop and Bucket System - (TIP: Go follow @gocleanco on Instagram to see how she uses Tide powdered laundry detergent to mop hardwood floors & tile!)
RECOMMENDED STEAM MOP: Bissell Powerfresh Steam Mop
-
GARMENT & DRAPERY STEAMER: Conair Turbo Extreme Steam Hand Held Fabric Steamer
-
METHOD KITCHEN DEGREASER- I most often use this on the filters of my stainless steel range hood. I spray it on, leave for a few minutes, wipe off and rinse!
-
WEIMAN STAINLESS STEEL WIPES- Great for a quick & easy polish
WEIMAN MAGIC STAINLESS STEEL CLEANER & POLISH - An aerosol spray that is water-based and leaves a streak-free finish
FOR STAINLESS STEEL SINKS:
BAR KEEPER’S FRIEND - This product is as old as stainless steel itself (1882) and has a variety of uses!
BAKING SODA - The product that we all have sitting around and isn’t just for baking! See this link for a multitude of uses of baking soda in your home!
TIP: When wiping & scrubbing stainless steel, use a soft sponge or cloth (nothing too abrasive) and scrub in the direction of the grain
-
METHOD TOILET CLEANER- Very effective and has a refreshing spearmint scent!
SCRUBBING BUBBLES FRESH GEL STAMPS - These gel stamps are great for maintaining a good smell & fresh clean with every flush. Each stamp lasts around 12 days and will give you a bit of extra time between cleanings, which is so helpful!
-
MIA’S DREAM NATURAL COTTON DISH CLOTHS - I just recently purchased these and the texture is everything! I love a good waffle weave. Plus, they have a convenient hanging hook if you prefer storing on a hook rather than folding in a drawer
GROVE CO. WALNUT SCRUBBER SPONGE - Made from recycled materials and is great for all-purpose cleaning
OXO DEEP CLEAN BRUSH SET - These little brushes are a game changer for those hard to reach places & grout lines
-
When in doubt, light a candle! I mentioned in a previous blog post that on days when I just can’t motivate myself to clean, I opt to light a candle for a quick “pick-me-up” for ambience. Below are a few of my favorite brands & scents!
PADDYWAX - I used to STOCK UP on candles from their warehouse sale when I lived in Nashville. It has been over 3 years since I lived there and I still have a few in the cupboard :)
SIMPLE NATURE - Made locally in Fort Wayne!
CAPRI BLUE VOLCANO CANDLE - Look no further than the Volcano scent from Anthropologie. #IYKYK
